When we talk about SMA Al-Aziz Islamic Boarding School, it’s well-known for its wide range of engaging student activities. One of the most recent events was the English Drama Contest (EDC), a performance initiated by the English subject as part of the Project Based Learning (PBL) approach used at the school.
More than just entertainment, the EDC aims to motivate students to improve their English skills. This time, one of our female students shares her experience participating in the event.
Hello! My name is Khansa, and I’m a 10th-grade student at SMA Al-Aziz Islamic Boarding School.
On Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, my friends and I took part in the English Drama Contest (EDC) with a play titled “God’s Plan.”
The EDC is a drama performance in English designed to help students strengthen their language skills. It also helps build students’ confidence in speaking English publicly.
Since I have a passion for theatre and performing arts, the EDC was a great opportunity for me to develop my talent.
Before the performance, we had to prepare thoroughly such as writing the script, designing costumes, and rehearsing our acting. We faced many challenges along the way, such as limited practice time and occasional disagreements among teammates.
I felt a bit nervous during the performance, but thanks to the support of my friends and the audience, I was able to push through and give my best.
After the show, I felt relieved and happy, especially when our team won several awards!
I personally received the “Best Actress” award, and together with my team, we also won “Best Performance.” We were proud of what we had achieved after all the hard work.
This experience made me even more confident in my English skills and motivated me to keep improving. I also learned many valuable lessons, such as:
- Improving English through real life speaking and listening practice
- Building confidence and public speaking skills
- Developing creativity and teamwork
- Learning how to manage stress and overcome challenges
- Showcasing talent in the performing arts
- Practicing how to truly portray a character
In short, participating in the EDC as part of PBL was a very meaningful experience. It helped us not only improve our English but also learn how to act more effectively.
